Now, it’s our turn to support Ray. As he continues his rehabilitation at Spaulding, your generosity through the Ray Blount Special Needs Anchor Trust provides the financial stability Ray and Gail need to manage this new reality. Our immediate goal is to secure specialized mobility transportation so Ray can once again be an active, visible part of the community he loves.

A Life Defined by Service and Faith

On August 24, 2025, what began as a peaceful Sunday bike ride through Dorchester and Milton ended in a life-changing accident. A fall over his handlebars resulted in a broken neck, leaving Ray paralyzed from his shoulders down. It is heartbreaking that this happened while Ray was doing one of the things he loved most — exploring the trails of New England.

However, those who know Ray know that he is so much more than this accident. He is a devoted husband to Gail, a loyal friend and family man, an avid reader, a music lover, and a lifelong Boston sports fan! His life has always been defined by his deep faith and a commitment to lifting others up. Whether he was teaching sixth grade in the Springfield neighborhood he grew up in, mentoring young men through the Concerned Black Men of Massachusetts for nearly 40 years or championing equity at Massport’s DEI Office, Ray has spent his life ensuring everyone gets a fair chance.

As Ray and Gail adapt to this new and daunting way of life, your contribution to the Ray Blount Special Needs Trust will go toward helping to purchase an accessible vehicle that will allow the Blounts to return to a more positive quality of life.
